Depends on how much (if) u believe the competition makes each better or not? I do believe that to be the case up to a point. And that point is b4 the Ravens Scrimmage.

QB1 needs to be rolling by then and getting the reps.

I am wondering at this point if JJM should have been drafted in the top 10? Did the Vikings blow it not taking Nix? Thats not a question I ever hear asked by Viking fans.

I get that projecting is so hard at QB from college, but JJ's floor was pretty low coming in. Much lower than I anticipated. Heck, look at your comparison between him vs Brees in college; night and day differences in experience and production.

Still rooting for the kid and hope he gets another shot here to start one day in spite of a rocky beginning.

Pre-draft I saw him as late 2nd/early 3rd. 60 would be more likely than 10 in my book. It doesn't serve guys like Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, or JJM to overdraft them then put all the weight of that high pick on them when they simply aren't ready. Thanks to Sticky for posting the stats, as I was mind-blown by attempts at a Drew Brees comp. Brees was literally a passing machine at Purdue while JJM ran a run-heavy offense with limited throwing. He might have a stronger arm than Brees but in every other measure of passing ability Brees would come out on top. He just has a long way to go to be any kind of NFL qb imo.

Would Bo Nix have been better? He had more years in college and a lot more throws, but he's a short-yardage specialist (not what KOC wants) with some of the same accuracy issues that JJM has. He's also benefitted from actually playing for a decent offensive coach (albeit one whom none of us can stand) while JJM unfortunately has been injured 2/3 of the time in his brief career. It seems clear in hindsight that KOC wanted Drake Maye and whoever they took after that was a 2nd choice at best.

There's a "tell" in that, no one knows for sure what happened , but something impelled KO to change course and go after Murray.
IMHO if JJ and Murray are as good as they think they are,, this competition will bring out the best in both of them.

It's really simple. Despite the development of McCarthy being in the absolute best interest of the franchise long term, OConnell is instead pivoting to Murray and trying to save his own ass hoping Murray runs around and makes enough plays for him to save his job. Don't forget, this was all done prior to Teasley being brought in and he has no ties to OConnell. They can wax poetic all day long about it going a "collaboration" but OConnell wasn't Teasleys hire, he inherited him. The Murray signing was 100% about OConnell trying to save his job, and why, because he did a piss poor job in developing McCarthy to this point. From all the reports of OConnell and the coaching staff essentially alienating McCarthy during his rehab, to zero preseason game reps, to not adjusting his offense to better suit a guy who hadn't played football in almost two years, to fracturing the relationship between the two through the media. It was an absolute Frank Reich-ish job by OConnell last year when it came to the development of McCarthy. Like I said, I hope McCarthy finds his way onto the field at some point this year and kicks ass IN SPITE of OConnell..
