The Monday Night Football matchup between the 5-2 Chicago Bears and the Seattle Seahawks shapes up to be a high-stakes, heavyweight defensive battle.

Key Additions: Both teams made blockbuster trades this week—the Bears acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Titans, while the Seahawks added All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from the Colts.

Key Injury Updates

  • Chicago Bears: RB Kyle Monangai is out (toe/thumb), DB M. Muhammad is questionable, and LB D'Marco Jackson is questionable.

  • Seattle Seahawks: OT Charles Cross, RB V. Jones, and WR Rasheed Shaheed are out, while RB Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price return to spark the ground game.

Why It Should Be a Good Game

  • Star-Studded Matchups: Both teams feature massive storylines, including the Bears debuting newly acquired star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and the Seahawks debuting offensive guard Quenton Nelson.

  • Offense vs. Defense Clash: Caleb Williams and the Bears boast one of the league's most efficient offenses, while Mike Macdonald's Seahawks defense ranks among the top units in the NFL (coming off a dominant 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs).

  • High Stakes in the NFC: At 5-2 for Chicago and just above .500 for Seattle, this prime-time clash carries major conference tie-breaking implications for the NFC playoff picture.

https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2026/11/02/bears-vs-seahawks-will-or-wont-win-jeffery-simmons-sam-darnold/92559609007/

Why the Bears will or won't beat the Seahawks in Week 8

The Chicago Bears will face off against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football as they try to get their third straight win and stay on track in a highly competitive NFC North. Quarterback Caleb Williams has made a huge difference for Chicago’s offense, but they will face their biggest challenge yet with Seattle’s defense, which is one of the top in the NFL in nearly every statistical category.

Both teams will be debuting players they acquired in trades. This will be the first start for guard Quenton Nelson since being traded to the Seahawks, while it will also be the first time defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons wears a Chicago uniform. Nelson and Simmons played each other earlier in the season with their former teams and have faced each other many times as former division opponents.

Here is what it would take for the Bears to win this game and what it would take for Chicago to lose this game to the Seahawks.

Why the Bears will win

The Bears will win this game because of their defense. Seattle is at their worst when their offense is turning the ball over and Chicago has the playmakers to get those takeaways. Last time Simmons played against Nelson, he forced a fumble. The Bears would like to see that happen again in this game. At the very least, they want to see Simmons put pressure on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, forcing him to make an errant throw or two.

Takeaways also create short fields for Chicago’s offense to work with, which Caleb Williams and the Bears will capitalize on. Chicago will need to get their run game going with running back D’Andre Swift. The Bears’ offense cannot afford to make any mistakes in this game, especially costly penalties and turnovers.

Why the Bears won’t win

The Bears will not win this game because Seattle’s defense will completely take over. They allow the second-fewest yards per rushing attempt of any defense in the NFL, making it difficult for Chicago to get their run game going. Whenever they struggle to run the ball, the Bears offense struggles to sustain drives and get points. The Seahawks’ defense also has a tendency to take the ball away and will be looking to get multiple turnovers in this game.

Offensively, Seattle’s top running backs, Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price, have no injury designation for this game and will be available. It will be the first time all season both backs are available, since Charbonnet has been out since tearing his ACL last season. Chicago’s defense is allowing an average of 4.4 yards per rushing attempt, something Charbonnet and Price will both look to exploit.

This "should be" a very good game...

I am envious of the Bears having their QB situation settled.

It really should be a good one. Bears are going to try and make a big push for the NFCN lead the next 3 to 4 weeks.

well outside of seattle, that schedule is pretty much why we are where we are. I fully expect them to at least by tied if not outright lead by december 1st.

I would tend to agree. We've had a softer schedule. Now we have to some big teams. They are going into the softer part. This is what I was scared of going into these games until Thanksgiving.

I am only scared if we dont make a QB move away from km, I think this team, especially the receivers want a reason to get excited again and I think we will see a sparked effort if they think their efforts may be rewarded on game day. I have no illusions of Wentz making us forget Montana or Marino, but he is serviceable and that is more than what we have been getting.

The NFL, Caleb Williams shoe dispute takes center stage on Monday night

Monday night’s game between the Bears and Seahawks in Seattle comes with a subplot. Other than the ongoing Joe Buck and Troy Aikman drama.

The league has twice fined Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams for displaying an “unauthorized logo” (i.e., “the logo of a company that doesn’t pay us”) on his shoes. After the Week 6 game against the Falcons, the league fined Williams $11,941. After the Week 7 game against the Patriots, the league fined Williams $23,882 — twice the amount of the first fine.

Williams has said he will continue to wear the Caddix cleats, citing safety considerations. Unlike most if not all other NFL players who use Caddix footwear, Williams declines to cover the identifying markings with tape.

While the controversy calls back to former Bears quarterback Jim McMahon’s battles with the league over his Adidas headband during a playoff game (after being fined $5,000, he went with “ROZELLE” for the NFC Championship and “POW-MIA” for the Super Bowl) and to Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher’s whopping $100,000 fine for wearing a VitaminWater hat to Super Bowl XLI media day, Williams’s choice of footwear is rooted in the basic belief that the shoes promote player safety.

As to the refusal to cover the shoes with tape to hide the Caddix markings, it’s unclear whether he’s concerned about undermining the performance of the shoe or whether he’s simply trying to prove a point.

The NFL is clearly trying to prove a point, by fining him repeatedly. And while both prior fines are pending on appeal, a third fine is inevitable unless Williams bends.

Regardless, the next chapter arrives tonight. Neither of the fine letters threaten Williams with preventing him from playing if he doesn’t tape over the logos and markings. If the league decides to do that, Williams will have a pretty big decision to make.

Coach Ben Johnson was asked about that possible outcome on Saturday. “He’s all about the team, and I know he’s not going to hurt the team,” Johnson said.

The question of whether Johnson would be “hurting the team” is a matter of perspective. Williams wouldn’t be “hurting the team” by refusing to play; the NFL would be “hurting the team” by refusing to let Williams play in his preferred shoes.

Either way, both sides have been stubborn. It seems that a compromise could be reached, somehow.

And at Lions is not an easy draw either. I'd say 50% of their next 4 are on the more difficult side.
