No doubt he'll compete hard, but if he's not QB1, he'll be off this team next year. He'll push for it. I think he thought this was a partnership and KOC would work toward his development, but he's seeing the business side of the game and a slap in the face indeed after only 10 games started.
KOC puts himself in this corner: its Murray or bust. And he's lost the loyalty of a kid who'd have died on the field for him. Sad really. I'd hate to see JJ jam it in Minnesota's face on another team.
As far as Murray is concerned, he seems genuinely excited about the opportunity. Glad to be here. Seems to mean what he's saying, loves KOC. 👍 I've got nothing against the guy. Have to hope he rocks it at this point.
Watching that interview was difficult. JJ is projecting ultra competitive “9”/scorned lover vibes. It doesn’t surprise I guess. Murray rubbing salt in it saying he’ll teach JJ best he knows lol.
I say good, let the best man win.
I do not see it as a slap in the face or any kind of sign of disrespect or not showing loyalty. This team is a business and their product is to put a winning football team on the field. Aside from JJM's performance, which has not been what they expected, he has not shown he can stay on the football field. Not only did he miss his first year, but last year he was injured twice. I am not sure what other choice the team had than to bring in someone else who could potentially step in and start. Getting Murray was not something that was planned and just a really unusual opportunity that does not come up often and just something that was too good to pass up from a player and especially a money perspective. More likely, we would have seen someone like Will Levis or Anthony Richardson brought in and JJM would have been the likely leader to start. Murray is only here on a 1 year contract, JJM is going to get a lot of reps in preseason, something he really should have gotten last year and ample opportunities to show he is still the future of the team.
I think the difference in experience is evident in their different answers. But I do think people are overreacting to JJ's response.

Maybe it’s a more professional persona he’s created. 9 to 5?

Things can be looked at a number of ways in an interview and taken out of context, easy to see something that may not be there. His opening statements obviously a sign of disappointment, however there was really no excuse for the comment about Murray just being some other guy sitting in a room with him like when he was in school. That is your teammate and a veteran and he deserves more respect than that. One of the concerns with him last year was an unexpected lack of maturity and he did not show improvement there.
