Medaille hit the nail on the head. I'll also add that Kyler got one question about how he's approaching the competition with JJ McCarthy. JJM apparently was asked 12 separate questions about Kyler, the competition, etc. Might have had something to do with the tone of the responses... one guy is asked how he likes MN, how has the move to MN been, and a quick question about his approach to the competition and the other basically gets grilled about how he didn't play well enough last year, what do you think about the team bringing in Kyler, how are you approaching the competition, is it a competition, etc...
We're overanalyzing everything on Day 1 off a couple throwing clips and a 5 interview sesh. Eye roll

100% this.

But hey, the media got their click bait to milk for the next week.

Things can be looked at a number of ways in an interview and taken out of context, easy to see something that may not be there. His opening statements obviously a sign of disappointment, however there was really no excuse for the comment about Murray just being some other guy sitting in a room with him like when he was in school. That is your teammate and a veteran and he deserves more respect than that. One of the concerns with him last year was an unexpected lack of maturity and he did not show improvement there.

I don't disagree. Like I said, the difference in their ages and levels of experience were evident in their answers. One has been through hundreds of these, the other a fraction of that. JJ will learn the politics of interviewing over time. I think? Still don't think his answer was anything we should be too upset about.

Yes, for sure if the Vikings offer K1 a contract JJM's last chapters in MN will have been written.
I'm coming around to he's po'd and frustrated and I'm ok with that. I think if he had a do-over on some of his media responses from yesterday? He might take it...
Night and day difference in maturity between him and K1? Maybe.
He looks to be coming in to compete hard. Thats all fans can ask of him and he can ask of himself.
There is plenty of blame to go around for going into yr3 facing down this situation; himself, coaches decisions, injuries, K1 at a bargain, KAM forcing KOC to play the kid b4 he was ready etc..
That said, I think fans are going too dark too early on JJM as a Viking. I dont believe in me bonz he wont be here long-term. Not yet anyways

This is what I was getting at though. There's no do-overs in the NFL and he had 3 months to prepare for what he'd say. I'd be the first guy in line to say this is all a nothingburger if that's what I believed (okay @StickierBuns might be first), but to me it just showed a lack of preparedness for a situation.

Oh well. Let's see what today's news brings! At least no Vikes have been arrested lately.

This. This didn't happen yesterday......and its not a lack of preparedness or maturity, its real emotion still right there on the surface....even after 2 and a half months. He's bristling and he let it out.....that isn't him normally. So fans can dismiss it, but I'll disagree politely. Looking forward to the footballs flying for real, lol.

This is a war. JJ will end up being traded before week one. Mark it down.

I'll take that bet...

I know you don't like K1, certainly your prerogative. I think this is a chance for him (and us fans) tif he can re-write his career arc and prove to be a better player. I thought he did fine with the media and messaging to fans and his team-mates. Nothing belligerent or disrespectful to the situation. But, thats my take.

Looking at it strictly through the Viking fan lens? Our best case scenario is having them both kick butt.

I have a hard time with QBs that had too many negatives from teammates and major issues with leadership and multiple question marks with things. Now he is all of a sudden fixed? Not sure. We will see. I think the Vikings will make a grave mistake before week one. JJ is pissed and letting everyone know that he isn't in the Murray camp like too many see as a foregone conclusion.

I think it's a little of both tbh. But after 12 questions on the Qb competition? I might not have faired well either and gotten salty myself.

The most on brand thing would be neither K1 or JJ winning and Wentz returning to pre-injury form.

I like that even in this wild scenario, you didn't use Brosmer. That'd be going too far lol
